My internet speeds are slow.

Well, that’s not good! We’re sorry to hear your Internet speeds are slowing you down.

Often, a simple reset, or ‘power cycle’, of the Quantum Fiber modem and Wi-Fi extenders you have will get things back to full speed.

  1. Locate your Quantum Fiber modem (often located in the basement or garage) as well as any Wi-Fi extenders you have installed
  2. Unplug your modem and any Wi-Fi extenders, wait at least 10 seconds, then re-plug them in
  3.  Wait for the modem to finish booting back up then re-check your internet connection

If your Internet speeds are still too slow, we can walk you through a few steps to troubleshoot the issue.

The vast majority of today’s consumer devices are not capable of gigabit speeds over wifi, newer devices should typically expect to see speeds between 100mbps and 400mbps depending on location within the home.

Move near your CenturyLink router/main wireless access point and perform a speed test using speedtest.net or centurylink.com:

Try the speed test again on a different device.

Try restarting your personal device. If that does not help, it is possible your personal device is old and cannot handle higher speeds, or has a physical hardware or software malfunction.

Check to see if you are connected to a 5G wireless network.

Disconnect from your 2.4G network, connect to your 5G network, and run the speed tests again while close to your router.

Still having Wi-Fi trouble?

If your only Wi-Fi device is the Quantum Fiber modem mounted in your basement or garage, you may need to purchase and install an additional wireless access point or mesh Wi-Fi system.

  • Place the new wireless access point or mesh Wi-Fi hub in a central location
  • Use an ethernet cable to connect the new wireless access point to your Quantum Fiber modem
  • Use the new wireless access point’s admin portal to activate it’s Access Point Mode/Bridge Mode

Should I factory reset my modem?

NO!

DO NOT factory reset the modem provided to you by Quantum Fiber  – doing so wipes out critical information needed for your modem to function properly and you will be charged for the cost of restoring this information.

Factory resetting is different than power cycling your modem. Power cycling your modem (turning it off and then on again) is often a viable troubleshooting step.

If you need help purchasing, installing, or setting up your wireless access point, we can help. Open a support ticket, and a technician will guide you through your wireless woes.
